Power protection

Plan NAS UPS protection and clean shutdown

A UPS is not only a battery runtime purchase. For a NAS it should support a controlled shutdown path for the storage system and the network devices needed to coordinate it.

Decision 01

Define the protected load

List the NAS, router, switch, and any storage server components that must remain available long enough for a clean shutdown. Do not size from the NAS label alone.

Decision 02

Verify shutdown integration

Check the exact NAS or server platform, UPS communication method, operating-system support, and shutdown behavior in current official documentation.

Decision 03

Keep the recovery boundary visible

A UPS reduces abrupt power-loss risk. It does not create a backup, repair a degraded array, or replace an independently tested restore path.
